Priscilla Chavez’s unconventional road to emcee status started as a youth when her mother would always make opportunities for her and her brother (Samuel the Oxymoron) to be creative. She exposed them to everything from musical instruments and cartooning to giving them both reign of the family camcorder to make short films.
When Priscilla’s parents divorced she felt an even greater need to delve into her creative side as a coping mechanism, namely writing poetry and short stories. Her love for words and story telling naturally led her to hiphop and, inspired by her older brother, she began to write rhymes at 16 years old.
In the early 2000’s, with her brother Sam, and under the nickname ‘Muffin’ she formed the hiphop sibling duo “Land of Weirdos”, and later that decade joined HipHop crew Soapbox Poetz. She came out of the gates as a tough and respected lyricist, playful and fun with wordplay by nature but dangerous on the MIC if provoked.
Priscilla’s mission in Music is a call to bring modesty and self worth back to all women and an encouragement to young ladies to passionately pursue Jesus Christ, before making worldly romance a priority. Muffin aka “the M” comes to the Shadow Locust crew as the first female member in 20 years! She has experienced many peaks and valleys in her life, which include abuse and loss, and views HipHop as a vehicle to empower, reveal and share her story.
In extreme contrast to today’s explicit mainstream femcees, she refuses to focus on superficiality. She doesn’t take herself too seriously either, (hence her MC name) and at the same time has a passion to expose the inner workings and longings of the soul. She says, "People think they have me figured out once they see I'm a woman and hear my name. I'm cool with that, it drives me to be better at what I do and let my work speak for itself."
Unlike her brother’s melodic rapid-fire style, Priscilla’s delivery on the mic ranges from “in your face boldness” to “tangible deep emotions”. She views herself as a wife & mother first before anything else, and its those values that allow her to create a unique brand of HipHop that relates to women everywhere.
