Codak, born Charles Maze, started in the Hiphop scene at 15 as a Bboy and entrepreneurial DJ. He began rocking local parties in his neighborhood through both these art forms and, while submerged in the culture of Hip-Hop, began cultivating his own style as a Wax-Master and a Dancer. Ultimately, the inclusion of these two Hiphop subcultures made him curious about MCing, writing lyrics over his favorite pause tape instrumentals.
With these newly found talents Codak never could understand the lack of creativity from other Christian artists. He vowed to always push the envelope and remained dedicate to a life calling in Hiphop. Pretty soon Codak joined a local outreach crew of dancers and Hiphop heads who continuously performed shows throughout the Hawaiian Islands. This is where he learned the importance of using his God-given talents to reach others in the streets.
After moving back to the states, he formed another crew with his cousins Apostle and Disciple X known as Tsunami Insurrection. This collective would tour all over the state of Florida performing shows. The group members, although still connected through music, eventually separated across the east coast, and began solo careers.
Codak, frustrated with the lack of quality beats in Hiphop, began producing music to inspire the masses. In return, this helped to fuel the fire behind his thought provoking lyrics.
Codak addresses various issues from the status quo of the religious establishment to vividly painting pictures of life over rugged hardcore beats. The ability to experience various parts of Hip-Hop creates an amazing atmosphere to address the heart of all matters. Over the years, Codak has created a studio that enables him to chop samples like Dilla, while experimenting with sounds that make up Hip-Hop classics. He continually shares his expression of Hip-Hip with the likes of WUT Metaphysical, Calmplex, Man of War, illogic, Kasan Da Julah, Disciple X, and other Shadow of the Locust crew members.
