BlackSymphany
Hailing from the Virginia/ DC and presently residing in Arizona's desert, BlackSymphany Started off as a high school party Dj rocking a turntable vintage Pyramid mixer that he owns till this day .
Being into hip hop since LL Cool J, Fat Boys, Dougie -Fresh and Slick Rick, he has always had love for the art and culture of Hip hop. Ice Cube, NWA ,EPMD, Gangstarr, Boot Camp Clique and Wu Tang clan were a few of the beat bangers that filled his ears growing up. When he gave his life over to Christianity he wanted to find an alternative to the secular underground Hip Hop that had influenced his life. In his initial search he started going to Christian book stores seeking out underground emcees to listen to as a way to fill the void that was missing after easing away from his favorite secular groups. He listened to multiple artist but many of them just weren’t doing it for him. He felt that they were weak and not street or lyrical enough, thinking “if I was not saved there is no way in HELL that these Christian artist would be able to reach me because I’m just not feeling them.”
Fortunately a couple of his brothers in Christ introduced him to artist such as Labklik, MarsILL, DeepSpace Five, Tunnel Rats. One artist that caught his attention completely was Shadow of the Locust's founding father, Dirt. Symphany felt that he heard the influences of RZA, Havoc (Mobb Deep), Dj Premier, and the Alchemist.
BlackSymphany was encouraged by these Christ-centered artists. Heavily into DJing and MCing, he felt that there was a solid hope for culturally relevant, God inspired, Scriptural Hip Hop. It wasn't long before he began collecting sound equipment and developing skills at production, recording and mixing. Politicking with musicians he developed many relationships in the music scene around his city. One important friendship sprouted between an MC, at the time, named 80 Proof, now known as 7nSeal. In 2007 7nSeal, influenced by Symphany, had contacted Dirt and brought him out to AZ to work on a collab album. The three concocted the original Idea's behind the Locust crew, 'Solomon Cain', and began working immediately on a demo produced solely by Symphany (except for the 'Journal Secrets' track produced by Beat Somebody) - (note: 'Solomon Cain', originally Dirt and 7nSeal, have reformed as Dirt and Reveal).
BlackSymphany surrounds you with raw, emotive production that is impossible to remove from memory. His unique sample selection has continually set standards within the Locust ranks since becoming a member in 2008. His work outside the crew as an MC, by the name of Sincon, and producer is the Iron that sharpens the iron referred to in Proverbs 27:17. In addition to his skills creating dynamic soundscapes, Symphany has a deep passion for scripture studies and ministry. His personal Mission Statement reads:
-Infiltrate the ranks of the Sons of Darkness
-Disciple nations to bring the Most High Kingdom to earth
-Take hold of my Mountain of Influence “Arts & Entertainment” and reveal the gospel and truth to the masses.
-Make a path for the next generation to maintain control of this mountain of influence.
Currently influenced by OS Hilman's Change Agent book, BlackSymphany makes beats while asking, "Which mountain has God given you to capture?"
